Meenakshi Amman Temple located on the southern bank of the Vaigai River in the city of Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India. This temple is dedicated to goddess Parvati. The temple forms the heart and lifeline of the 2,500 year old historic city of Madurai. It was built by between 1623 and 1655 CE. More than 15,000 visitors visits this temple everyday and specially on friday it goes beyond 25,000 visitors a day. This temple was listed in top 30 nominees for the "New Seven Wonders of the World". The temple is the most prominent landmark and most visited tourist attraction in the city. Every year during april and may temple celebrates annual ten days Meenakshi Tirukalyanam festival. In this ten days more than 1 million visitors visits this beautiful temple.
